Competency 6: Participate Actively in the Profession
Artifact: Investigation Career Interests and Professions Presentation
For the competency “Participate Actively in the Profession,” I selected my Investigating Career Interests and Professions Presentation from EDCI 52002. In this screencast, I was tasked with identifying professional organizations and scholarly journals that could support the growth and refinement of my pedagogy, as well as exploring open positions in education that aligned with my skills and interests. Through this process, I joined professional teaching organizations such as the Indiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (INTESOL) and engaged with resources like the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism. I also identified open positions within my school corporation, including a multilingual learner teacher role and an instructional coach position, that reflected my professional aspirations.
This project underscored the importance of continually refining our practice by staying informed about current trends and engaging with colleagues across the profession. I have come to see that this exchange of knowledge and expertise is what sharpens our skills and enhances our effectiveness as educators. While joining organizations and subscribing to journals was a valuable first step, I view them as only the foundation. Since completing this project, I have attended a multilingual learner conference and actively sought out opportunities to challenge myself and grow as a teacher leader
